Board Corner: A Q&A with Payal Hegde

Payal was one of the very first candidates we spoke to when we began recruiting for the Sister Schools

Board of Directors this spring – and we think she is the perfect fit!

Not only does she have a passion for improving educational opportunities based on her own childhood in India, but she also values the “dual-impact” nature of our mission – teaching local students that no matter who they are, what they look like, or how much money their families have, they can always make a difference in the world. Payal has a unique perspective that we believe will be instrumental as Sister Schools charts a path forward and continues opening eyes and changing lives for years (hopefully decades!) to come.

What is your Professional Background?

I have been doing Tech consulting in the Seattle area for many Tech companies since 2013. I enjoyed Consulting, as I got to work on many interesting projects and met lot of new folks. Earlier this year, I made a switch and now I work for a startup as a Program Manager.

Why did you connect with Sister School’s mission?

Growing up in India, I have done some Volunteering and saw the impact of how important education is to change a child’s future. Education is every child’s right, and helping with education is one of the biggest gifts you can give any child. As things started improving and opening up post Covid, I was looking to volunteer and came across Sister Schools. I have always wanted to work with an organization that helped/worked with kids, and I knew Sister School was the right place to start.

Where is your favorite place you’ve ever travelled to?

Greece

What is your coffee shop order?

Drip coffee with cream.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pad Thai.
